Lists of Friends and Lists of Feeds

In Everything Else on December 29, 2008 at 7:04 pm

Today I went on an undertaking bigger than Poverty, more important than World Hunger, and will achieve more than exploring outer space: Organizing my Friendfeed Account.

If any of you gave listened to Robert Scobles 20 ways to being a bigger friendfeed monster than Guy Kawasaki, you’ll realize that Friendfeed is a very power tool. You can easily share things with others, sort people into lists, join rooms….

Wait, what was that? Organize People into rooms? Man that feature is cool. I can basically make an entire new list of entries from the people I choose that is very customizable. I take any room or friend, and put them into my list. Then I can either choose just to have it limited to the people I choose, or make it more like a home feed where I see what those people liked. Very good stuff. Read the rest of this entry »

Robert, Michael, Loic, You’re all WRONG

In Everything Else on December 28, 2008 at 7:33 am

That is right, I said it. You’re all wrong!

Incase you haven’t been following all of this blogosphere hysteria, here is everything you need to know about the debate on: Twitter Search: Followers vs Value. Michael Arrington first brought this idea to the masses after Loic Le Muer posted asking for a feature to sort through large amounts of tweets by the number of people that follower the person who tweeted it. In numerous Friendfeed disscussions, most of the top bloggers have been arguing with people on this subject.  Robert Scoble has posted numerous times on the issue, and seems to be one of the main people backing up the idea that tweets should be ranked on Retweets and the number of links/replies the tweet gets. Most of the conversations can be followed by looking through his profile. Read the rest of this entry »

NewsCred: Credibility Ranking at its Best?

In Company on December 27, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Newscr… nope.

Newscre…e… nope. One more time

Newscre…e….e….e…d! Finally got it out. Newscred [crunchbase] is a ‘News’ aggregator that was founded in July ‘07 and came out in private alpha testing May ‘08, then finally released a public beta in August ‘08. Its a very simple service. The idea of it is to rank newspapers and blogs based on credibility. You see an article, you read it, and you rate whether you think the article is credible or not. This vote later affects the credibility ranking of the author who wrote the article as well as the source. Read the rest of this entry »

What You got in that OtherInbox?

In Company on December 26, 2008 at 3:08 pm

OtherInbox PictureAs Joshua Baer put in OtherInbox’s Techcrunch50 presentation, we all have that other inbox that we send certain things to so it doesn’t show up in our work email account. One of the most annoying things is to have a list of emails that you just don’t want. OtherInbox is a great way to control these emails. After using OtherInbox for a few months, I’ve decided its become such an important part of the way I work, that I want to do a complete review of it.

AlertThingy: Upgrade? You Decide

In Company on December 23, 2008 at 3:52 pm

I am currently sitting in front of 2 monitors and a laptop. On one screen I have Windows Live Writer, and the other screen is equally divided between ‘Alert Thingy v2’ and ‘Alert Thingy for Friendfeed’, while my laptop holds the old version of Alert Thingy. These 3 applications hold most of my entire online presence, all beeping at me every 2 minutes with a nice popup in the lower right hand corner of the screen. These are the tools I use everyday in order to stalk.. err… I mean ‘follow’ you guys. So lets dive right in!

This is, Unoriginally, the Social Media Post.

In Everything Else on December 19, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Every, single, blogger, will someday come to the awful conclusion that their next post will be titled: “How to use Social Media”, and the content of that post will somehow relate to that. I know what you are thinking, and No, I don’t plan on doing something different.

In short, there are a lot of new sites out there. This site can attest to that. You would be surprised who you can find.

….. (Here is where I stop to check the TWhirl Notification that popped up)….

Die Embargo

In Company on December 18, 2008 at 3:32 am

Michael Arrington is fed up with PR firms and Embargos (The request that information not be posted until a certain time/date), and I fully agree with him. As he describes in this Techcrunch post, the most annoying thing for a news site is if another site breaks the embargo.  Instead of producing better content than the competition, sites will break embargos 5-10 minutes early to grab the spot on TechMeme and Google News, leading to more displayed advertising.

Now doesn’t that sound stupid? Read the rest of this entry »

Say Goodbye to the Cycle of Apple

In Company on December 17, 2008 at 6:34 am

In a story spreading faster than California’s Wildfires, Apple has recently annouced that Macworld Expo 2009 will be its last. And if you thought that Steve Jobs would be there for the last ‘Hoorah!’… you will only be met by the fact that Apple will be sending Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. Many people asked whether the lack of Steve Jobs at the keynote would be related to his health, but as Techcrunch points out, this is probably just because they want to lower expectations
